Guidance Announcements

The annual College Credit Plus (CCP) Information Night for Northwestern Local Schools will be Thursday, October 26, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. This is in conjunction with Parent-Teacher Conferences. A general overview of the CCP program will be presented along with specific admission criteria for local colleges. Come learn about the CCP classes students can take at the high school to earn college credit without ever leaving our building or about opportunities at local campuses. We want to make sure students and families are aware of grade requirements and have enough time to sign up for the ACT or other testing criteria to plan ahead for next year and beyond!

College updates (Shared periodically as information is received from area colleges):

1. University of Akron: If you're interested in attending UA and have at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and at least a 27 ACT Composite score, you could be eligible for admissions to The Williams Honors College. Perks of the honors program include potential scholarships, special on-campus housing, faculty mentors, and priority scheduling.

2. University of Mt. Union is hosting a Presidential Scholarship Program on Saturday, December 2. The program offers renewable, full-tuition awards to eight first-year students. Remaining candidates will maintain their previously awarded Trustee Scholarship of $18,000. Eligibility requirements include an ACT Composite score of at least a 30 and a minimum GPA of 3.75. You must apply and be admitted to Mount Union prior to the program date.

3. Bowling Green State University: Interested in becoming a math or science teacher? BGSU's Science and Math Education in ACTION Program offers recipients $4,000 the first year of college with increases each year up to more than $5,000 the fourth year (total value of scholarship is approximately $20,000). Criteria includes at least a 3.0 GPA and at least a 23 ACT Composite score.

Brethren Care Village is hiring STNAs and will pay for your STNA training. If interested, please see Mrs. Ryan in the guidance office.

Attention Seniors: Do you have a passion for service? Have you done a lot of volunteer work? Have you considered applying to University of Dayton? Stop into Guidance for information about University of Dayton's "Leadership in Service" scholarship that is worth $10,000 over four years and can be in addition to merit-based scholarships that you might be eligible for based on your GPA and ACT. The deadline to apply for the Service scholarship is November 1.

Attention Seniors: Are you planning on playing Varsity athletics in college? We currently do not have a single student from the Class of 2018 registered with the NCAA or NAIA Clearinghouse. Create your account today and then let us know in Guidance so we can send your transcript. Don't forget to request to have your ACT scores sent directly to the Clearinghouse.
