General Announcements

School will be in session on Monday, March 26th and the third nine week grading period is now extended to include the 26th.
We will have no lettuce or salad for Monday the 26th or Monday April 2.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to get a second chance at life?  Well, now you can take a step into one woman’s journey as a heart transplant recipient by coming and watching Northwestern High School’s rendition of The Tin Woman.  The first cast (seniors) is Friday, March 23 at 7pm.  The second cast (juniors) is Saturday, March 24 at 7pm and Sunday, March 25 at 2pm.  See you there!

Calling all heroes!  The Northwestern A-Team is sponsoring a hero run for autism awareness 5K on Saturday, April 28 at 9 am.  Registration forms are available in the front office.  See Mr. Schaefer if you have any questions.

HOSA Blood Drive will be held today, March 23 in the high school gym.  Sign-up @ lunch of see a HOSA member.

Want to be featured on school newspaper, “The Herald”?  You’re in luck!  “The Herald” is hosting the first ever photo contest!  Submit your school appropriate Husky Spirit and athletic photos to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the “Northwestern PhotoBattle.  There will be categories for best photo in each grade, best staff photo, honorable mentions, and the overall grand prize winner.  The winning submissions will also be featured on the upcoming issue of “The Herald”.  All students and staff will have a chance to vote for their favorite pics after Spring break.  All submissions are due today, March 23rd, the day before Spring break.  See Mr. Wes Martin or any Media Com member for more information.

Do you like to sing, dance, or act? The Wayne County Performing Arts Council is looking for talented youth ages 8-18 for their summer musical production of “Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr."! Stop by the office and pick up a flier for audition information.

There is now a blue recycling bin near the snack vending machine.  Please try to use it for cans and plastic bottles.  The left side is for plastic bottles and the right side is for cans.  

Student school fees are overdue.  Fees must be paid in order to continue participating in athletics and any other extra-curricular activities including prom.  If you need to see how much you owe please see Mrs. Reed in the front office.

 Any student who will be driving to school this year will need to stop in at the front office and pick up a parking application. Parking permits are to be kept in your vehicle.

Guidance Announcements

Quota International of West Salem is offering a $250 scholarship to graduating students of Northwestern HS.  Applications are available in the guidance office and the deadline to be turned in is May 9th.

Wooster Brush is looking for summer employees.  You must graduate this summer, and have plans to attend college in the fall but are willing to give an 8 week commitment with no vacation breaks.  See the guidance office if interested.

The Northwestern Ruritan Club Scholarship application is now available online through the Naviance website or the paper version is available at the guidance office.  Deadline to apply is March 29.

Seniors: Keep in mind that many scholarship deadlines are April 1st which is Easter Sunday.  The guidance office is not open during spring break—the week leading up to this deadline.  Please make sure you get transcripts from the guidance office, and any letters of recommendation that you might need BEFORE spring break.

Interested in CCP classes next year?  The Letter of Intent must be returned to the guidance office by April 1.  You can either stop in to the guidance office to pick one up, or it is available on the right sidebar of the guidance page located on the NHS website.

Interested in attending one of the US Military Academies? The application process must begin spring of your junior year, at the latest. There will be an information session held on Saturday, April 14 in the Akron area. Stop in to guidance for more information.

Interested in starting your college search but don't know where to begin? Are you not sure if you want to attend college in Ohio, in another state, or maybe even in another country? The 2018 National College Fair will be in Cleveland on April 22 from 1pm - 4pm at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland. Admission reps from hundreds of colleges and universities will be available to speak one-on-one with students & parents about all aspects of the college admission process, including paying for college, admission requirements, activities on campus, and more. Register ahead of time for the National College Fair online at www.nacacfairs.org/ncf. 

The second annual Wayne county Mini Maker Faire will be held at Wayne College on Saturday, May 19 from 10 am-3 pm.    See flyer in guidance window for more info.

The guidance office now has the following local scholarships: Lodi Hospital Health Career Scholarship, SCOT Industries, Joseph D. Lucci, Sr. Memorial Award, the Weltmer Foundation Academic gift and the American Legion Auxiliary Achievement Award.  Please check Naviance for more specific information on these and many more scholarships.  The Naviance scholarship list is updated frequently.

Athletic Announcements/Events

The All-sports scholarship and the Todd Boatner Memorial Scholarship applications are now available for pick up in the front office.  The application deadline is April 18th.

Wrestling Awards will be April 2nd in the high school library at 6:00pm.

Cheer awards will be held on April 3rd at 7:30pm in the high school library.  Please bring a dessert to share.

Cheerleading tryouts:  Clinics will be held 4/4 & 4/5 (3:00-4:30) attend one and tryouts will be on 4/6 @ 5pm.
