The main goal of the Student Services Office is to meet the individual needs of every student - academic, college, career, social, and emotional.  The office provides information regarding course options, scheduling, career development, college search and application process, College Credit Plus, graduation requirements, scholarships, and mental health issues.

Mrs. Laeng is the Guidance Counselor and Mrs. Burkholder is the office secretary. We are both here to help, and we look forward to working with students and their family as they navigate through high school and plan for the future!

New/Returning Student Registration
To register a new or returning student, click here:

After the online forms have been completed, the Student Services office (419-846-3833) will call you to set up an appointment to complete the registration process, and for our staff to help you and your child select classes.  You may print the course selection form for the appropriate grade level and use the Course Selection Book to read course descriptions and feel free to bring questions with you!

Please bring the following important documents with you to your appointment:

Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Immunization Record, 2 items that show Proof of Residency (can be your driver's license and a piece of mail addressed to you at your address), and Custody papers, if applicable to your family. If your child has an IEP, please bring the most recent copy of that document.  You may bring originals, and we will make copies of your documents.

We will send a record request form to the previous school for records. However, it sometimes takes several days or even weeks to get records. We cannot rely on getting these important documents from the school, as they are needed to complete registration.

Financial Management will be offered again this summer.  This is a required course for graduation, and is worth .5 credit.  The course will be accessed through Google Classroom.  Interested students must join the Google Classroom (code: 6lzm3xu) by May 13, and the $75 fee must be paid to Mrs. Reed in the front office by May 17.   All assignments and tests must be completed NO LATER THAN Friday, August 9, 2024.  An additional fee of $50 will be charged to any student who wishes to continue the course after that date.  Summer Financial Mgmt.pdf

A variety of online summer classes are also available through Treca (https://treca.org/programs/summer-school).  These classes are great for credit recovery.  Please note that TRECA courses are paid for directly with TRECA, and any correspondence for the course is through them.  The High School will get grades and credits earned upon your completion of the course.

NAVIANCE Student Accounts

NAVIANCE Student Accounts

All students are given a Naviance log in to help plan for the future.  Many Husky Huddle activities involve Naviance, and will help students become familiar with it.  To log on to your Naviance account, go to: https://student.naviance.com/northwesternhs

In Naviance, students will submit transcript requests, select colleges to which they have applied, request letters of recommendation, search for local scholarships as they become available, do various college and career assessments/searches, and more! Naviance is also linked with Common App, which makes applying for college simpler.

Please see Mrs. Burkholder or Mrs. Laeng if you are unsure of your login or password.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS

Active scholarships are posted on Naviance.  After logging in to your student Naviance account, click on the Colleges tab, and then on the Scholarship link.  The list is updated on a regular basis, so make it a practice to check weekly for new scholarships.  Some applications are filled out electronically, others will need to be printed and mailed.  Again - these are STRICT deadlines.  Meaning, if the application is due on a certain date, it cannot be mailed on that day!  Also, pay attention to the application instructions.  Most applications are to be mailed by the students, not turned in to the school office. The high school daily announcements also has information about other opportunities that are available in the community, as we receive them.

The Wayne County Community Foundation is now using an online application system for scholarships.  On their website, you can fill out one application that will automatically put you in the running for any scholarships for which you qualify based on your answers to the questions.  The application period is between December 15 and March 15.  The link is available on Naviance, or by clicking here:  https://www.waynecountycommunityfoundation.org/grants-and-scholarships/apply-for-scholarships-3

Keep in mind that this is one of the only times in life where you can jump through a few hoops and receive money!  It takes work, and dedication, but it can help take the sting out of college costs, even for 2-year or trade schools.
