NORTHWESTERN RURITAN CLUB MEETING NEWS RELEASE:
“Helping Our Community Be a Better Place to Live”
The Northwestern Ruritan Club met for their Christmas Dinner/Meeting at 6:00 pm on Monday, Dec. 8 at Northwestern High School. The NW FFA provided special Christmas table decorations. Pres. Jamie Bowman called the meeting to order and welcomed members, wives, and guests including Rick Dilyard, 2026 Ohio District Governor. The group joined in singing “America” and the invocation was given by Jim Johnson. A delicious ham dinner served by the NWHS chefs was enjoyed by all.
Gov. Dilyard installed the 2026 NW Club officers. He then emphasized the importance of our country with the 250th anniversary coming up! “Freedom requires virtue”! It is important to encourage our “kids” to appreciate the freedoms we have! The Northwestern High School Choir, led by Director Mrs. Leslie Andrews, entertained us with Christmas songs which were very well done.
Treasurer Chuck Beck’s report was approved subject to audit. A thank you note was received from Kayla Cutter for her scholarship. Beck reported that the packing of packages for NW area soldiers “Huskie Brigade” went very well. He appreciates the “goodies” for the packages that were brought in and the help with packing. He had sent packages to 24 “soldiers” from the area. Beck also reported that he received “paper work” from the State Highway Department re: the club picking up trash along St. Rt. 301 from Pleasant Home to Lattasburg in 2026.
Kevin & Joyce Keener again gave a very extensive report of what they are doing with the “Husky Salute Squad”. This is in conjunction with the “National Wreathes Across America Day Ceremony” which is this Sat., Dec. 13. Seven cemeteries in the NW School District will be served with 654 known veteran’s graves. The West Salem Legion Rifle Squad will be involved in the opening ceremony at 10:00 at the West Salem American Legion Hall. The NWHS FFA plus many others will help put out the wreaths. There are “banners” to put out at each cemetery announcing the project. Great appreciation is expressed to Kevin & Joyce!!!!!
Many members have “signed up” for the Salvation Army “Bell Ringing” at Buehler’s Milltown Store on Dec. 16. It was mentioned that few NWHS students have any idea of what our Ruritan Club is and does. Hopefully the word can be “gotten out” somehow in the future!
The next dinner/meeting will be at 6:30 pm, Mon., Jan. 12 at NWHS. Club committees will meet to discuss plans for the year. The Director’s mtg. will be at 6:00 that evening.
The business meeting was adjourned with the Pledge of Allegiance.
