Dear Husky Community:

Are you ready for another engaging season here in “Husky Country”?  “Welcome back” to another exciting school year!

Together we continue our efforts in serving and developing our students.  We strive in hiring the best people and developing our staff through investing in them, in our ‘human capital’, and supporting our talented people to best serve our students socially, emotionally, and academically.  Our staff and our strong relationships here at Northwestern are our strengths and are vital to our ongoing success.

We feel that EVERY child matters and we strive to fulfill our mission of “preparing our students today for tomorrow’s opportunities!”

The nuts and bolts of what we do centers around our collaborative efforts with our students:

  • academics
  • socio-emotional supports
  • preparing our students for life, and career and/or military service,

Some indicators of our success include:

  • Maintaining small class sizes
  • 99.6% graduation rate
  • 307 HS students currently enrolled in CCP College credits provided within our HS building
  • 10 CTE Career Technical Education 4-year pathway courses
  • 14 student internships
  • A strong Pre-apprenticeship program
  • Numerous career credentials and graduation seals earned, an avalanche of positive employer and college feedback about our graduates, in addition to observing their stories following graduation - their accomplishments, careers, and their satisfaction – their overall happiness!

Incoming student open enrollment remains strong at Northwestern, which is another indicator and confirmation of how well we do things here.  We have had more than 250 incoming open enrolled students for 6 consecutive years.

I want to thank our staff and administrators for your efforts last year and planning for this current year.  It has been said that “Great leaders are forged in crisis”.  Indications are that everyone was forged a leader through the COVID crisis last year.   Everyone!  Our ongoing collaborative efforts will continue well beyond the COVID crisis, into the foreseeable future.

In these stressful times we all need to laugh more, smile more in these stressful times – enjoying the strong relationships we forge between our employees, students, families, and our community.

I want to acknowledge the leadership and dedication of our past employees, as well as our Board of Education Members, past and present, who have contributed to our continued success as a school district and have promoted the needs of our students and student success above all else.  Each individual is an integral part of what we do in service to our students and our community while supporting one another in our collective efforts.

I am beginning my 17th year here at the helm of Northwestern Schools and will no-doubt finish my career at Northwestern Schools.  There is no better place to lead.  I remain, as always, a servant leader.  I welcome thoughts, ideas, questions, concerns and am here for anyone.

We are all about excellence and increasing expectations at Northwestern. Within our Northwestern family we will continue to focus on the needs of our students. We will continue to prepare our students today for tomorrow’s opportunities!
I am always willing to listen to ideas, questions, and concerns from students, parents, faculty, staff, and anyone in our community. It is only by asking, sharing, and participating that we can continue our important work. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason and “thank you” for your ongoing support.
