Summary of Temporary Grading/Credit Guidelines
Summary of Temporary Grading/Credit Guidelines

These guidelines are for the 2019-2020 school year only due to the unique circumstances as a result of the Coronavirus.

Northwestern Elementary School

=         Fourth quarter grades will be determined based on the student’s quality and completion of classwork assigned.  Based on the quantity and effort of the school work completed, teachers will assign a Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U) mark.

=         Students are encouraged to complete all of their assignments to the best of their ability so that teachers can measure their progress. A student who completes at least 50% of their assignments to the best of their ability in a specific content area will receive an (S) as their fourth quarter grade for that subject.

=         Kindergarten grades are unique, therefore will be determined as a team and communicated to students appropriately. Final grades will be determined by an average of the first three quarters.

=         Fourth quarter assignments will be assigned through May 20th. The deadline to turn in assignments, textbooks, Chromebooks, and any other school issued supplies will be May 27th.

Northwestern Middle School & High School

=         Fourth quarter grades will be determined based on the student's quality and completion of classwork assigned and the quality of the work returned for grading purposes.  Based on the quantity and quality of the school work, teachers will assign a Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U) grade for their class. The designation will be determined by the teacher, in collaboration with the building principal.  This will be looked at similarly to our traditional grading scale, where students need to earn a 65% in order to receive a passing letter grade. The Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade that is determined will be for the 4th grading period.

=         Fourth quarter assignments will be assigned through May 20th. The deadline to turn in assignments, textbooks, Chromebooks, and any other school-issued supplies will be May 27th.  Final exam grades will not be given.

=         Final grades will be impacted by the fourth quarter performance; therefore, students are encouraged to complete all of their assignments to the best of their ability so that teachers can measure their progress within the content and curriculum.

=         Students’ grades from the first three quarters will be used to compute the final grade for the year, pending that students successfully complete the fourth quarter.

=         A student’s grades from the first three quarters will be used to compute the final grade for the year, pending if the student’s successful completion of the fourth quarter.

=         Failure to successfully complete the fourth quarter work will result in a lower final grade for the school-year, which will factor into a student’s cumulative GPA.

=         The calculation of GPA for the year will remain the same.

=         For students who were at-risk of failing a course within the first three quarters, successful completion of the fourth quarter will be used to determine whether they have met the criteria to pass for the year. This will be determined in collaboration by teachers and building principal.
