Blessings in a Backpack (Blessings) is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to fight weekend food insecurity for children. Blessings acknowledges that children need proper nourishment to learn and thrive as students, so Blessings works to connect the community and individuals to provide resources for elementary school children.
· Blessings feeds 88,276 children nationwide.
· Blessings provided 3.23 million hunger-free weekends during 2014-15 school year.
· Each weekly bag provides 6 – 7 food items including 2 entrees, 2 snacks, and 2 breakfast items.
· It costs $100 to provide one hunger-free school year for one child.
By providing for the needs of our students in this way…
· 78% feel cared for by their community
· 71% feel they are helping their family
· 60% get into less trouble
· 59% find it easier to learn at school
Through the support of local churches and the Northwestern community, we are able to provide 16 of our children with a hunger free weekend!
