Friends,

I could not be more proud of the accomplishments of our students and of our Northwestern faculty, staff, and administrators! The accomplishments of our students has been fantastic. The accolades received for our educational excellence and leadership has been astounding. The articles within this newsletters provide evidence of our schools doing the great work for our students. Whether it be fine arts, STEM programs, core foundational courses, or extracurricular activities we do prepare our students today for tomorrow’s opportunities. More-so, we have used collaboration, grant writing, and striving for efficiencies to pursue our mission within our financial constraints. You will take note that our strategic plan includes some “wish” items. Part of our vision sees obstacles and constraints on student achievement and authentic, real-world learning and advancement. These have resulted in a vision that includes suggestions for the future that include:

• Continue refining and expanding authentic learning through Project-based learning and STEM, as well as our Career Pathways and Career Planning
• Improved individualizing and differentiating of instruction to better challenge and meet our individual students’ needs
• Expanded, universal Preschool
• Expanded and improved Science and career pathway lab spaces – most especially at the high school
• Studying flexible hours, days, year scheduling
• Land acquisition as opportunities arise – for our outstanding Agricultural Science Program!

Each of these listed items will cost dollars as well as additional responsibilities and effort. However, we will pursue grants and contributions to minimize our cost and ensure that these are affordable as we move forward with our mission in preparing our students, as has been our practice. Currently, we are studying the feasibility and cost of a sizable permanent greenhouse at Northwestern High School. Should the study prove that this is feasible and we receive grants, contributions, and state weighted funding to cover 50% or more of the cost we are likely to move forward on this project in the next year.

A few items on the fast track are completion of our HVAC systems at a cost of roughly $1.2 million and our High School fire suppression system. Our community has so much to be grateful for - our families, friends, and wonderful school system. In our schools we have extraordinary teachers and support staff, wonderful administrators, and wise Board of Education Members. We also have numerous support organizations which help our mission such as Ruritans, All Sports, PTOs, Music Boosters, Alumni & Friends, FFA Alumni, etc.

I take great pride in sharing the continued accomplishments of our students, community, and schools. The supports and relationships throughout our community are unique. We can take great pride in our schools and together we can continue to strive for even greater heights. With our dedicated administrators, staff, and community we will continue striving for and achieving well-beyond expectations.

We are all about excellence and increasing expectations at Northwestern. Within our Northwestern family we will continue to focus on the needs of our students. We will continue to prepare our students today for tomorrow’s opportunities!

I am always willing to listen to ideas, questions, and concerns from students, parents, faculty, staff, and anyone in our community. It is only by asking, sharing, and participating that we can continue our important work. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason and “thank you” for your ongoing support.
